The Pest Control Association of Nigeria (PECAN) has urged Lagos residents to stop patronising quack fumigators to avoid infected environments.
The National Financial Secretary and the Chairman, Annual General Meeting (AGM) Mr Oluyemi Taiwo, made the plea during the Health Awareness walk show in Lagos.
Taiwo said the quackery activities had endangered people lives in the state.
“We don’t want the public to patronise the quacks because they have poisoned so many people, they have poisoned our water, and they have poisoned the environment.
” We want Nigerians to patronise registered pet controllers, members of the Pest Controller Association of Nigeria are certified by regulatory agencies and registered by Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) and the Ministries of Environment.
“What we want Nigerians to do is to stop patronising those guys around the street poisoning people everywhere.
“Ideally, the World Health Organisation recommends that at least every resident should fumigate their house quarterly while office should formulate at least twice a year,” Taiwo said.
He said that sensitisation on fumigation was not high as expected in Nigeria adding that recently there were series of snake attacks which happen as a result of neglect in fumigating the environment.
Taiwo pleaded with Nigerians to take cognizant of fumigation and pest control of their environment.
