NCC To Address Challenges Of Modern Technology At NAN Media Week

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) will be addressing the challenges of modern technology on youths at the 2024 News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Press Week.

This is contained in a statement signed by the Nigerian Union of Journalist (NUJ) NAN Lagos Chapel’s Assistant Secretary, Mr. Yemi Adeleye.

Adeleye said that the press week is scheduled from Sept. 23 to Sept. 27, at NAN Multi-purpose Media Centre, with the theme: “The role of journalism in addressing the impact, opportunities and challenges of modern technology on youths”.

According to him, the events that will be featured during the week include : Walk for Fitness, Cultural Day, Public Lecture and a Visit to Orphanage and Old People’s Home.

“During the week, we will be celebrating the vital role of journalism in our society as a cornerstone of democracy, and development in human society.

“The NUJ NAN chapel recognises the role and power of media in addressing the ills of the society and shaping the world.

“The week is strategic and apt as it focuses on the trending global issues around technology,” he said.

Adeleye said that the world was fast moving, and being shaped and reshaped each day with innovative trends in technologies.

“Therefore, it is imperative to look at the gains and the pains in Information Communication Technologies (ICT) and it’s effects on the society, especially young Nigerians,” the assistant secretary said.

He reaffirmed the union’s commitment to supporting a vibrant and independent press as well as the cause of developmental journalism as against fake news and sensational journalism.

“We acknowledge the challenges faced by journalists today, from censorship to disinformation.

“We stand in solidarity with journalists who courageously pursue the truth for the development of our country.

“Let us take this opportunity to promote developmental journalism. We believe that access to accurate information is essential for an informed citizenry and a healthy democracy,” Adeleye said.

Other notable guests that would be speaking on the discussion include Dr Segun Musa, the Chairman of the Occasion and Chief Consultant, Global Transport Policy.

Others are: SP Benjamin Hundeyin, the Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State, Malam Ali Mohammed Ali, Chief Host and Managing Director, NAN, among others.
