MUSLIM across the country today joined the faithful across the world to celebrate the Hijrah 1442 New Year.

Reputable Islamic scholars in their separate Salah message said this is a time for the faithful to reflect to become better Muslims; better parents, children, staff, neighbour, brother, sister, manager, leader, and lead exemplary life for others to emulate.

Imam University of Abuja, and Imam of Da’wah Front of Nigeria, Taofiq AbdulAzeez congratulated Muslims all over the world for the gifts of life, relative security, peace of mind, good health and happiness that made it possible to remember and meet the new year.

He however, made a “painfully appeal to the Muslim patent umbrella organization and the patent leadership to use the occassion of hijrah, in all contents, spirit and letters, to change the narrative and plights of the Muslims through the implementation of the implementable and critically pertinent Shariah issues that have pinned us down for so long,”

He listed some of the most important, urgent and emergency inroads: naming and shaming of Muslims in authority, office, power or influence who have consistently failed to stop insecuriy in our land.

Others are: the stoppage of the well organized, funded, defended and protected Al-magarie system; not only because children, youth, able-bodied and women begging (which it has

turned out to be) is neither Islamic nor human, but because of the well known security, social, economic and health implications of this menace; and stoppage of political thuggery among the Muslim children and youth because of its security, economic and social implications among others.

Executive Coordinator, Foundation for Social and Human Development (FSHD), Lukman Tunde Fasasi said : “Alihamdulillah, today is the first day of Islamic Year 1442AH. Happy New Year to all of us. This is perhaps a better day to reflect, plan and make resolutions,”

He stressed: “Yee Muslims are the best Community evolved for mankind. Let’s enjoin what is good and forbid what is evil. Let’s migrate from evil acts to Godly behaviours. Let the personality of the Holy Prophet Muhammed (SAW) guide our thoughts and actions, and earn for ourselves the title ‘Al-Amin.

“Let the world be a safer place from our thoughts and actions. Let the bond of brotherhood be strenghtened and not faked. Let’s make the world a better place for you and me. Let’s create a new social order built on the true tenets of Islam where all, including non-Muslims, appreciate the guidance and love of Allah, and experience the beauties of Islam, which bring endless bliss,” he said.

National President, Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria (MMPN), Abdur-Rahman Balogun, asked Muslims to use the opportunity of the New Year to migrate from their evil ways in the past to renew their commitments in the New Year and pray to Allah to end the scourge of covid-19 pandemic which had ravaged the world.

The MMPN President also called on the Federal and state governments in Nigeria to always declare Muharram 1, the first day of the Islamic Hijrah Calendar as a public holidays.

He called on the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) to enter into dialogue with the Nigerian Government on the issue.

Balogun implored Muslims to rededicate themselves to the cause of building an egalitarian society and join hands with other Nigerians in moving the nation forward.

Balogun, however, commended state governors who had declared public holiday for Islamic New Year especially in the Northern part of the country as well as Oyo and Osun states in South West, urging others to emulate their colleagues.

He described series of attacks on innocent Nigerians by some insurgency groups as unIslamic and pleaded with the affected groups to cease fire and stop violence as a demonstration of its readiness to embrace peace.

Balogun equally called for a stringent legislation against rapist in the country, saying it was getting too rampant because the culprits always get away with it.
