The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS), has declared that the Idiroko border in Ogun State remained closed to activities, after some Yoruba nation agitators forced it opened on Saturday.
Spokesperson Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun 1 Area Command, Hammed Oloyede, told SlyeNews that the situation has been brought under control, while the border remained shut.
Oloyede said no gun was snatched from Customs officers.
He said: “The situation is under control, there is no problem whatsoever. Everywhere is calm. Our officers are at their duty posts with other security operatives.
“I am not aware of the snatching of riffle, because none of our offices had his riffle snatched. The border is still closed and there is no movement whatsoever,” Oloyede said.
Some Yoruba nation agitators had on Saturday stormed Idiroko land border and forcefully opened the gates.
Idiroko, located between Nigeria and Republic of Benin, is one of the few borders that were left closed when President Muhammadu Buhari declared others opened in December 2020.
But, the Yoruba nation supporters invaded the border community on Saturday and forced open all the gates at the international frontier.
A video on social media showed a gun being snatched from an Immigration officer. A man was also seen shooting the gun into the air to the admiration of others at the scene.
Meanwhile, the spokesman to Sunday Adeyemo Igboho in a video commended the actions of the agitators, saying the Federal Government shut down Yoruba States borders while those in the north were open.
Igboho, had earlier threatened that not only the borders would be opened, the sea ports in Apapa, Lagos State would be taken over and all the leaders of Fulani extraction sacked.
