DPR, NEMA confirm OVH depot fire contained
. Firm commences investigation

The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) have confirmed that the fire at the OVH Energy farm tank in Lagos has been brought under control.
Head, Public Affairs, DPR, Paul Osu, said: “From our preliminary reports, all safety control measures to contain the fire which is restricted to one tank was swiftly activated by the company and other stakeholders and all staff were safely evacuated from the facility.
“All other adjourning facilities have also activated their safety control measures to prevent spread to their facilities.
“Our operations team are fully on ground for ongoing investigations and we will continue to provide updates as to probable cause of the incident,” he stated.
Also, the Acting Zonal Coordinator, South West Zonal Office, NEMA, Ibrahim Farinloye, said the tank farm fire has been put out at about 7:55 a. m this morning.
He had earlier said the affected tank on fire has 6,000 metric tonnes of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) otherwise known as petrol trapped.
Meanwhile, OVH Energy, in a statement confirmed the incident, saying that the preliminary information reveals that the fire emanated from a tank within the terminal.
“Whilst an investigation has been launched to ascertain other details, we have a team of professional fire fighters on ground to manage the outbreak.
“We are happy to state that as at the time of this report, there are no casualties recorded.
“Safety remains our priority at OVH Energy as we operate under high safety standards to curb incidences of fire outbreaks as well as other health and safety risks from happening at any of our stations,” it stated.
