Customs rakes in N7.9 billion revenue in Kirikiri

The Nigeria Customs Service, Kirikiri Lighter Terminal Area Command has generated N7.9 billion as Customs duty and other charges in the first quarter of 2021.
Controller of the command, Compt. Hammi Swomen, who disclosed this in a statement said the figure surpassed the N5.8 billion made in the first quarter of 2020.
According to him, the figure represents a 36.8% increase in duty collected when compared to the revenue generated in the first quarter of last year.
The command also made seizures of five containers worth over N55.7 million in Duty Paid Value.
Swomen said seized items include; 2,655 pieces of used car tyres concealed with two vehicles (One used Toyota Carina E 2000 model & One used Mazda 323 2004 model), all with a Duty Paid Value of N21.5 million.
Others are: 2,772 pieces of (5 litre) kegs of vegetable oil with Duty Paid Value of N28.6 million; 16,920 bottles of 1.5litre per bottle Augus-Towanka Table water with Duty Paid Value of N5.4 million.
Compt Swomen said schedule 3 item No 14, 4 and 11 of the Ecowas Common External Tariff (CET) 2017-2021 Import prohibition list (Trade) PROHOBITS the importation of these products.
He further stated that for the first time the command generated revenue of over N3 Billion in one month.
