CMA CGM drops surcharge on Nigerian cargoes

THE French Container Transportation and Shipping Company CMA CGM has announced the suspension of peak season surcharge on ships calling in Nigeria from 1st October, 2020.

 

Recall that Maersk Line and Mediterranean Shipping Company had earlier suspended application of the surcharge from 1st September 2020 as a result of protests by the Nigerian Shippers’ Council and stakeholders.

 

The suspension of the peak season surcharge was contained in a letter sent to the Executive Secretary/CEO of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, Hassan Bello, from the Head Office of CMA CGM in Marseilles France.

 

Meanwhile, the Ag. AIG, Marine Command, CP Anduson Bankole paid a visit to Bello, at the headquarters of the council and pledged to support NSC in its duties as port economic regulator.

Nigerian importers had earlier expressed displeasure over huge surcharge imposed on them by the international shipping firms on cargoes imported from across the world.
