Buhari names train stations after Tinubu, Soyinka, others

PRESIDENT Muhammodu Buhari has approved the naming of some railway stations along the Lagos-Ibadan and the Itakpe-Ajaokuta-Warri corridors after deserving Nigerian citizens.
   The list obtained by SlyNews showed that the Apapa train station was named after Bola Ahmed Tinubu; late Mobolaji Johnson (Ebute Metta Station); Babatunde Raji Fashola  (Agege station).
   Others are Lateef Jakande (Agbado station); Vice President Prof Osinbajo (Kajola station); Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti (Papalanto station).
   Buhari also honoured Wole Soyinka with Abeokuta station; Segun Osoba (Olodo station); Ladoka Akintola (Omio-Adio station); Obafemi Awolowo (Ibadan station); Alex Ekwueme (Operations Control Centre).
   Meanwhile, the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has declared that the Abuja-Kaduna train service would resume on Wednesday, July 29, 2020.
  Ameachi, who disclosed this during the test run of newly acquired coaches to be used on the corridor, also announced new rates for the services.
   He said the tickets should have been more expensive but the president intervened.
  “President Buhari approved the reviewed fares as follows: economy N3000, business class N6000.
   “We even proposed higher fare but the president approved that we should leave it at that price.”
  As at January, 2020, the rate of Abuja-Kaduna trip were as follows:
First class express trip: N3,000
✅ First class normal trip: N2,500
✅ Economy express trip: N1,500
✅ Economy normal trip: N1,300
 Recall that train operations were shut down in March 2020 as part of measures to curb the spread of coronavirus in the country.
