BREAKING NEWS: Five die, buildings destroyed as explosion rocks gas plant in Lagos

NO fewer than five persons have been confirmed dead in gas explosion at Baruwa area of Ipaja, Lagos State early Wednesday.

 

Residents of the area woke up early Wednesday into panicking as a gas facility – Best Roof Gas Station, operated by a private company went up in flames.

 

The explosion, according to residents occurred around 5.30am while a running generator plant exploded in the process of discharging gas from a tanker.

 

SlyNews gathered that fire fighters are already battling to put out the fire.

 

According to an eyewitness, residents scampered for their dear lives.

 

The Director General of the Lagos State Emergency Agency (LASEMA), Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said emergency responders have been mobilised to the explosion site.

 

The Acting Coordinator of the Lagos Territorial Office of NEMA, Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, confirmed that five people died in the unfortunate incident.

 

“There are casualties, so, far, five bodies have been recovered while three were rescued alive,” he said.

He added: “Many buildings have been destroyed. The explosion threw the discharging tanker across the road,”

 

Farinloye explained that: “At about 20 minutes to 6.00am at Candos Road, Baruwa Inside, Lagos, a Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) tanker was in the process of discharging at the Best Roof Plant Station and the Station Generator was on and from where it was reported that explosion erupted.

“The Best Roof Gas Plant Station is located in densely populated community.”
