Blackout As National Grid Collapses Again

The blackout currently experiencing today (Saturday) is as a result of collapse in the national grid, Slye News has learnt.
The Independent System Operator, an arm of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) indicated on its website that power plants contribution to the grid began to decline around 2pm to 2,797.16MW from the average 3,417.99MW around 1pm.
The electricity contribution further declined to 1,020.08 around 3pm before dramatically falling to 0.80 by 4pm.
The electricity distribution companies confirmed the collapse.
The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC), in a public notice said “Pls be informed that the power outage being experienced is due to a system failure at the national grid by 3.10pm today affecting power supply to our franchise area.
“Rest assured we are working with the relevant stakeholders to restore power as soon as the grid is stabilized” it stated.
The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) said the incident occurred around 3:09pm.
A public announcement signed by its head of Corporate Affairs, Emeka Ezeh, noted that the situation led to loss of power supply.
“This is to inform our esteemed customers of a general system collapse which occurred at 15:09 hours today, 6th July, 2024. This has resulted in the loss of supply currently being experienced across the network.”
