FRESH information reaching SlyNews has revealed that apart from the five persons that died from the Baruwa Ipaja fire incident early Wednesday, more havocs were wrecked on the community with 44 buildings, 89 shops and two children seriously affected by the incident.
The Acting Coordinator of the Lagos Territorial Office of NEMA, Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, in his update said three more people have been rescued alive from the fiery scene.
Farinloye said: “The fire has been put out completely and the secondary gas leakage from the underground tanker has been put under control.
“However, a preliminary assessment has revealed that 44 buildings are affected, 1 school, 1 event Centre, 89 shops, 1 church, 1 tricycle, gas tankers, 23 electric poles, 2 transformer and 1 motorcycle are all affected in the incident.
“Three more people have been rescued alive but with minor injuries.
“A woman and 2 children affected are being taken to a more intensive burn hospital after the initial first aid treatment,” he said.
SlyNews had earlier reported that no fewer than five persons have been confirmed dead in gas explosion at Baruwa area of Ipaja, Lagos State early Wednesday.
Residents of the area woke up early Wednesday into panicking as a gas facility – Best Roof Gas Station, operated by a private company went up in flames.
The explosion, according to residents occurred around 5.30am while a running generator plant exploded in the process of discharging gas from a tanker.
SlyNews gathered that fire fighters are already battling to put out the fire.
According to an eyewitness, residents scampered for their dear lives.
The Director General of the Lagos State Emergency Agency (LASEMA), Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said emergency responders have been mobilised to the explosion site.
The Acting Coordinator of the Lagos Territorial Office of NEMA, Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, confirmed that five people died in the unfortunate incident.
“There are casualties, so, far, five bodies have been recovered while three were rescued alive,” he said.
He added: “Many buildings have been destroyed. The explosion threw the discharging tanker across the road,”
Farinloye explained that: “At about 20 minutes to 6.00am at Candos Road, Baruwa Inside, Lagos, a Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) tanker was in the process of discharging at the Best Roof Plant Station and the Station Generator was on and from where it was reported that explosion erupted.
“The Best Roof Gas Plant Station is located in densely populated community.”
