Nigeria Exports $252 Million Cashew Nuts in 2022
Nigeria exported about 315,677 metric tons estimated US$252 million of cashew nuts in 2022, hoping to double the value this year.
The Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) data showed that the country hopes to reap a whopping US$504 million from exportation of the same produce in 2023.
Last year, the commodity accounted for 5.24 per cent of the country’s non-oil export portfolio, NEPC said in a data from various pre-shipment inspection agents.
Commenting on the development, the Executive Secretary of NEPC, Dr. Ezra Yakusak, disclosed that raw cashew was the fifth leading non-oil exportable product in Nigeria in the 2022 Non-Oil Performance Report.
“The aim of the export drive is to support the Nigeria cashew sector and increase cashew productivity and efficiency, improve crop quality, and improve harvest and post-harvest techniques”, he said.
He said, “In 2022, our non-oil performance export performance indicated that cashew was the fifth leading non–oil exportable product in Nigeria.
