The National President, Pest Control Association of Nigeria (PECAN) Mr Olakunle Williams, has urged all levels of Government to support them to play a leading role in pest control management and safe lives.

 

Williams made the disclosure during the briefing in Commemorating the World Pest Day in Lagos on Monday with the Theme :”Essence of Pest Management in Public Health” .

 

The World Pest Day awareness was initiated by the Chinese Pest Control Association and Co-sponsored by the Federation of Asian and Oceanic Pest Management Association (FAOPMA).

 

The National Pest Management Association (NPMA), and the Confederation of European Pest Management Association (CEPA) while the inaugural ceremony was held in Beijing Hotel on June 6, 2027, with 300 in invited guest including members of the media, industry leaders and academia.

 

 

He said that said that if government support the regulated pest management to take over the control of pest in the environment that it would safe lives and keep healthy environment.

 

“We say today, Protect Nigeria Public health through professional pest management. We call attention to the big threats caused by small (tiny) pests. Government should promote the use of professional pest management (PECAN) in scientific and socially responsible way.

 

“Government should also protect the professional image of the pest management industry and pest control associations of Nigeria,” he said.

 

He said that rat as a pest could be so troublesome and stubborn, saying that people use several home control methods like traps and chemical to remove them from their premises.

 

Williams said that PECAN members would clear the rats by using the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), approved rodenticide to clear them without odor or endangering the environment.

 

He explained that the Global Pest Management Association, had over 30 associates driving that cause under it adding that leaders in Pest Management were looking into potential treats, caused by pest and find solutions to eradicate them.

 

Also speaking in a zoom video,

the World Health Organisation (WHO), represented to Nigeria, Dr Edwin Isotu said that Pest control was a very important activities that keyed to the pest management in the environment.

 

Isotu urged pest control professional to improve awareness on danger in patronising quackery to enable Nigerian to live in an healthy environment.

 

He advised that pest should be controlled in Nigeria by regulatory standards procedures for more efficient operations.

 

Isotu said that there was need for pest control expert to expose themselves to continuous learning approach which he said would help in building synergy and promote corporations among them.

 

Also speaking the National Vice President of PECAN, Mr James Erond, during the vote of thanks said that awareness should be emphasised on professional pest control management.

 

Erond also urged the Governments to pay more attention to pest control to enable professional to take charge and make Nigerians to be healthy.
