Presidential aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, has promised expand the Calabar Seaport if elected in the forthcoming general elections.
Calabar seaport has continued to suffer draft limitations for over 16 years now.
The all-important seaport suffers from the shallow water challenges, it experiences low container tonnage, low patronage of vessels while it losses cargoes to neighbouring countries.
Stakeholders believed that the Calabar Port if dredged would help to reduce excessive pressure on the ever-busy Lagos ports, while saving huge revenue losses.
Tinubu, who met with APC delegates on Wednesday in Calabar promised to expand the seaport, to attract more vessels into the state for economic growth.
He said: “Dear delegate, I urge you to vote for me during the party’s primary election.
“Calabar is a great city; I want to assure the people of this state that I will expand the Calabar seaport for more businesses to thrive through the maritime sector,” he said.
He also promised to properly rehabilitate the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) of Bakassi, if elected president.
