The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has embarked on a sensitisation programme to 150 drivers to curb incessant Road Traffic Crashes (RTC) by articulated vehicle drivers along the Epe-Ijebu Ode and the Epe-Ajah roads in Lagos State.

The Epe Unit Commander, Mr Tunde Adesina, said in his welcome address that the programme became necessary when it was discovered that the rate of crashes increased along the roads.

He said: “The incessant crashes began after the road being reconstructed to meet international standard and the articulated vehicles are mostly being involved.

“In addition, statistically out of five recorded crashes, four will be tipper trucks and/or trailers.

“Considering this trend, the command took it upon itself to call the drivers together and invited the stakeholders such as Police, NSCDC, VIO, NDLEA and Community Leaders to chat, advice and warn them on the proper use of the road.”

The Lagos State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Olusegun Ogungbemide, who was represented by DCC Ganiyu Hamzat, the Corridor 1 Commander in charge of Lagos to Ibadan express way in terms of Corps’ activities.

Ogungbemide analysed the causes of most of these avoidable crashes, the effects and how they could prevent it.

Also the representative of NDLEA encourage the drivers to desist from taking alcohol, any hard drugs or smoking marijuana before driving.

He said taking of these things will always affect their sense of judgement forgetting that their vehicle’s brakes hardly catches especially when it is fully loaded.

The representative of His Royal Majesty Oba Naforija, High Chief Bashorun, in his own contribution, advice the drivers to adhere to all what they have heard from various speakers telling them that it’s pays them because of their dependants.

The representative of Nigerian Army in his goodwill message advice the Corps to make sure that this type of program should be a monthly or quarterly event.
