Nigerian Breweries wins double at SERAS award

In recognition of its “Brew A Better World” sustainability agenda, Nigerian Breweries Plc, the foremost brewing company in Nigeria has received two awards at the 2021 edition of the Sustainability, Enterprise, and Responsibility Awards (SERAS) CSR Africa Awards.

 

Nigerian Breweries Plc emerged as the winner of the Best Company in the Environmental Stewardship category and the Best Company in the Climate Action category at the 15th edition of the award with the theme “Driving Sustainability Through Circularity: Localizing the SGDs for Greater Impact.”

 

According to the local organizing committee (LOC) for the award, NB Plc won the award as the Best Company in the Climatic Action in acknowledgment of the company’s efforts at reducing carbon footprint with the installation of a 663.6kWp solar power plant at the Ibadan brewery which is the first of its kind in the industry while the company was declared the winner of the Best Company in the Environmental Stewardship category in recognition of its commitment to environmental sustainability.

 

Nigeria Breweries Plc was also nominated and emerged a finalist in 3 other different categories that include Best Company in Circular Economy, Best Company in Education, and Best Company in Water and Sanitation

 

Speaking shortly after receiving the awards on behalf of the company, the Corporate Affairs Director, Sade Morgan, described the awards as a testament to Nigerian Breweries Plc’s commitment to raise the bar through its sustainability agenda.

 

Morgan explained that the company’s sustainability agenda is focused on three cardinal pillars of Social (Diversity, Fair and Safe, Community Impact), Responsible (Always a Choice, Address Harmful Use and Moderation), and Environmental (Carbon Neutral, Circularity, Healthy Watersheds).

 

“We are highly elated to receive these recognitions and we remain truly committed to promoting activities that would make the environment sustainable,” she said.

 

In his keynote speech, the Founder, SERAS, Dr. Ken Egbas, noted that the awards won by Nigerian Breweries Plc and other winners are well-deserved given the companies’ commitment to sustainability. He added that the recognition should serve as a constant reminder for award recipients to continue to do more in impacting society.

 

The SERAS-CSR Awards Africa, established in 2006, is an annual project with the vision to remain the gold-standard recognition in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Sustainability in Africa.
