Encomium As Aremo Olubowale Alimi Clocks 80
Encomium has continued to pour in to celebrate the media icon Aremo Olubowale Alimi, who clocked 80 this year.
In the wake of the celebration, Alimi is posed to unveil his new book titled “Footprint in Broadcasting: The Professional Odyssey of Aremo Taiwo Alimi”, written by Dr Qasim Akinreti.
The official launching of the book will hold on December 17, 2024, at Combo Hall, LVT Agidingbi Ikeja.
The programme would be graced by the Former President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo as Father of the day; Senator Representing Ogun East, Otunba Gbenga Daniel (Chairman of the day); and the Director-General, Voice of Nigeria (VON), Jibrin Baba Ndase (Chief host).
Daniel, in his congratulatory message, said Alimi’s successful trajectory in the world of broadcasting remained a source of inspiration to many.
“You carved a niche for yourself as an astute broadcasting Journalist with the conduct of the ‘TV personality interviews’ at the Lagos State Television which remains a reference point till today and which later saw you becoming the Founding Chairman, Nigerian Elections Debate Group.
“You further rejigged the profession with series of unprecedented achievements as the Commissioner for Information in Ogun State: Chairman of the Ogun State Television Board and as the third Director-General of the Voice of Nigeria (VON).
“As an Elder Statesman, an Icon and a living legend, I have no doubt that you had written your name in an indelible ink in the annals of Nigerian Broadcasting.
“I am happy to join the good people of Remoland in particular and Ogun East Senatorial District in general to pray that the good Lord grant you renewed strength to enable you celebrate more peaceful years in life,” the former Governor of Ogun State stated.
Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the Ogun State Governor, Kayode Akinmade, said Alimi’s administrative acumen remains unmatched, given the task associated with the sensitive agencies he administered, which have since been unbundled into about four ministries as of today.
“Aremo Olubowale Alimi, born December 17, 1944, in Sagamu, Nigeria, is a Nigerian Journalist, Media Executive, and Administrator with global influence in the advancement of Communication and Public Relations as well as broadcasting. He was Nigeria’s longest-serving State Commissioner for Information, Social Welfare, Youth, Sports and Culture, Ogun State, between 1981 and 1991.
“He left an indelible mark in the state during his tenure as Commissioner, having served diligently under the following Military Administrators: Brigadier-General Raji Rasaki, Rear Admiral Muhammad Alabi Lawal, and Navy Captain Olusoga Oladeinde Joseph meritoriously.
“He demonstrated a high level of professionalism in handling the ministry, initiating the village-square meeting concept to enhance participatory governance,” Akinmade stated.
