Two-Storey Building Collapses In Lagos

Disaster struck in Orile-Iganmu area of Lagos early this morning, as a two-storey building collapsed, killing three people.
The building, located at 22, Amusu Street, Bale Bus-Stop, Sari, Orile-Iganmu, Lagos
was said to have been distressed.
Director, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, who confirmed the incident, said five people were rescued alive.
She said: “Eight people have been rescued so far. Five people were rescued alive and have been transported to the hospital for medical treatment. Sadly, three individuals have been recovered deceased”
Head, Public Affairs Unit, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, (LASEMA) Nosa Okunbor, said, “there was no loss of lives and no injuries were sustained”.
He said: “Cause of the self-collapsed building was attributed to distress, as further information gathered from LASBCA at incident scene revealed that occupants of the collapsed building had been served notice to quit by LASBCA as being distressed, but some occupants remained recalcitrant”
Occupants of the building were said to have been evacuated for safety reasons.
He stated that further assessment conducted at the scene on the adjoining two-storey building reveals that the building was distressed and unhabitable for occupants.
