13 New Jetties Under Construction, As Lagos Intensify Water Transportation

To increase capacity utilisation of the waterways, Lagos State government said about 13 New Jetties are currently under construction across the state.

 

Lagos State Commissioner, Ministry of Waterfront Infrastructure Development, Yacoob Ekundayo Alebiosu, who disclosed this in a press conference, said the new facilities would complement seven jetties and terminals already handed over to LASWA last year.

 

He said: “To complement the existing jetties and create more avenues for water transportation, construction of 13 new jetties are currently on-going, while some are at advanced stages of completion. This is in addition to the 7 jetties and terminals commissioned and handed over to LASWA for management last year.” 

 

The jetties are: VIP Chalet Waterfront Jetty, Badagry (completed and awaiting commissioning); Ilado Waterfront Jetty, Amuwo-Odofin (completed and awaiting commissioning); Takes Bay Jetty, Victoria Island ( 93% completed); Agboyi Ketu Jetty Terminal, Kosofe (93% completed); Apa Jetty, Badagry (92% completed); Epe Marina Jetty, Epe, (90% completed); and Evite Lekki Jetty, Lekki (90% completed).

 

Others are: Whitesand Oyingbo Jetty (85% completed); Ebute Ero Waterfront Jetty, Lagos Island (54% completed); Mile 2 Jetty, Amuwo Odofin (52% completed); Ijede Jetty, Ikorodu (48% completed); Amuwo Jetty, Ojo (48% completed); and Oke Ira-Nla Jetty, Eti-Osa (42% completed).

 

Giving an update on some private waterfront estate, Alebiosu said the Mansonia Bay Waterfront Scheme, already has approval for the reclamation and development of 350.455 hectares within Oworonshoki foreshore, Kosofe LGA for mixed development uses. 

 

He said the reclamation is ongoing with 5 hectares achieved the following under listed proposed islands/estates have also been approved by Mr. Governor for reclamation work. However, he said the proponents are still perfecting their documentation and payments.

 

Also, he said an agreement was executed between FBT Coral Ltd. and Lagos State Government on 9th August, 2021 for reclamation and development of 54.58 hectares of waterfront Land at Makoko in Mainland Local Government Area. The approved sharing ratio between the Proponent and Lagos State Government is 75%: 25% respectively. He said the reclamation work has commenced.

 

He also mentioned the reclamation and development of 150 hectres at Majidun-Awori in Ikorodu, saying the private estate jointly owned by Fresh Water (FW) Dredging Limited, Amosu Awori Family of Majidun and  others operating under the Garland Trade and Investment Limited to reclaim 150 hectares of Waterfront Land at Majidun Awori for commercial and real estate development. He said reclamation is above 15% completion.
